Quad Cities Knitters Guild

The Quad Cities Knitters Guild meets the 2nd Thursday of each month at the Bettendorf Library, at 7 pm. Check the room assignments in the foyer at the front entrance.
Each month the QCKG has show and tell. Members bring the items they are currently working on or ones they have completed. A good chance for all of us to see your talent and ideas.
Most months there is a program, where someone teaches the members and guests a technique that maybe you did not know, and want to learn. A couple times a year we have special meetings, such as a picnic, and a holiday meeting , where we go out to eat.

We also love to make hats for Caps for Kids. A hat is a great way to use left over yarn and reduce your stash and give to someone else in need.

The yearly fee is $15.00 a year, due every Sept., and if you join after that it is prorated. Your first two meetings are free.

Join us soon!

Note from the President:
Greetings!

I received a message that might be of interest to some of you. It is in regards to the International Fiber Collaborative. They have been working on an "interdependence" tree project. Participants have been using traditional methods as well as recycled materials such as potato chip bags, old shoes, wire, grocery bags, etc. There is a $500 Fiber Grant toward any artist/individual who uses textile in a traditional or non-traditional way to further their artwork. Sculptors, Photographers, Fiber, Ceramics and Mixed Media artists are welcome. The deadline for submissions is March 15th. To see other leaves, go to their website. The address for them is here.

I really enjoyed double knitting at the February meeting! It reminded me that I bought yarn years ago to try making a double knitted cardigan. If I can remember what it was maybe I could get it done for next winter.

See you all at the meeting!
C.Weinberger, President

Program: No structured program this month. A sit and knit and enjoy each others company. Maybe a surprise or two so always bring some practice yarn to guild, you never know what might pop up.

Quad City Knitters Guild Meeting February 12th 2009
CASI/Plus 60: N. said that the two organizations are going to have an exhibit again in April. Entrants must be a member of one of the two organizations. Everyone may drop off items at CASI on April 3rd between 12 noon and 3 PM. They will have membership applications available at that time. N. wanted to make sure that everyone knew about this enough in advance, so that the members could make something to show. J. Wagner will judge again. Items will be on display during the month of April. A reception will be on April 25th and there will be comments by the judges. J. Masat volunteered to bring entry forms to the next meeting.

Presentation: J. Wagner taught double knitting.

Respectfully submitted by S. Traver, Secretary

Note from the President:
Despite the deep freeze that we seem to have been in recently, I think that it's been a pretty good month. We had a lovely party at the January meeting and Judy showed us how to avoid that annoying little "jog" when knitting stripes or patterns in the round.

Unfortunately, one of the coldest days occurred on the 15th when Sit 'n Knit was scheduled. At least it was a good day to stay home and keep warm with a knitting project. I have started on a new little sweater and hope to have 2 of them done by March.

Ann Marie sent me the information for the Alice Starmore book and the Portuguese Knitting book. The Alice Starmore book (click words for link).

Also: Portuguese Knitting by Andrea Wong, and for a free pattern, go to here.

If there is any interest, she has volunteered to share the DVD at a meeting or do a demonstration.

I apologize for the trouble some people had finding the current issue of Piecework magazine. Apparently subscribers actually get it before it hits the stands. It should be available now. It is the January/February 2009 - 3rd Annual Historical Knitting Issue.

C. Weinberger
President

Program: Double Knitting. I think we have done this before but we have some new people since then. I will show you 2 ways to double knit and how to cast on for that too. Bring two different colors of yarn, I don’t care what weight of yarn. Cast on 50 stitches with one color .

Quad City Knitters Guild Meeting January 8th, 2009

We enjoyed the annual snack meeting this month and the culinary talents to our members.

Presentation: J. Wagner demonstrated making a jogless color change while knitting in the round.

Note from the President:
Greetings,

When you receive this 2008 will be history. I hope that you all had a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I know that I did. As usual, our annual dinner at Mo Brady's was quite good.

Happy Knitting!
C. Weinberger, President

Program:
When knitting in the round, do you get a job in your stripes? I will demonstrate how to avoid that jog. Nothing to bring, I will have a hat started using stripes and let everyone have a chance to see how you get rid of that annoying job. Also on the program is problem solving night. If you have a problem, bring it this month and we can see if we all can help you.

Next Quad-City Knitter’s Guild Meeting
Date: January 9, 2009
Time: 7 PM
Place: Bettendorf Public Library

Note from the President

When you receive this Thanksgiving will be a fond memory and, with any luck, so will all the leftovers. I hope that you were all able to attend the Festival of Trees. Although I usually wait until the end to go, I went at the beginning. I thought that everything was wonderful including the display of our stockings. I think that this may have been our best collection of stockings! I also think the placement many have given them even more exposure than usual. I also noticed that there was a
very cute ornament made by Sue Stanton.

I'm looking forward to our annual dinner at Mo Brady's! Such a nice way to end the year. I hope that all of you who weren't at the meeting will call Judy Wagner and tell her that you are coming.

Cindy Weinberger
President

Note from the President
Since we will be electing officers for the next 2 years, there will be no formal program.

We will also be discussing handouts and other promotional ideas. June has agreed to place articles in different publications if we can give her ideas about who to contact and what to write up.

I will need items to put into a display at the Children's museum and we need to be gathering things to display at the Fiber Arts Festival September 28 & 29. As a promotion for the show, we have been asked to have a couple of people come to sit and knit at the Bettendorf Children's Museum on September 15th from 1-3 pm.
